Hame Castle Hameenlinna, Finland |
Hame Castle is located on the banks of the river Vanajavesi in the city center of Hameenlinna. The castle, around which the starrish fortifications were added in the 18th century, was (maybe) built in the early 1300's in order to solidify Swedish power in the region. The castle became a prison in the 19th century and served in that capacity until 1953. A museum has existed there since 1988, and massive restoration has returned the fortification to its former state of starrish glory. |
