Fort Niagara's Hot Shot Furnace was so located to serve the Hot Shot Battery, the only such battery, dedicated to flinging heated shot, that I have found thus far in my studies. I'm sure Betsy Doyle would have appreciated such convenience of location, if not the puddles that made access to the firebox and ash pit problematic during my visit.
