This most adorable of all star forts isn't really a fort at all, but was designed in 1770 to be Havana's Casa de Correos, or royal post office! Though this seems like quite a strong fortification to serve in such a role, I suppose it made sense to design all governmental buildings to be difficult to attack.
Over the years it has served as the home of various high-ranking military and political figures, seat of Cuba's Senate and then Supreme Court, and today houses the Instituto Cubano del Libro plus several bookshops, and an art gallery.
