Inside the Powder Magazine, one finds, not powder, but these five informational signs. These were obviously ripped from the ground by some angry goliath, probably because he was frustrated at being unable to read them, so weather-beaten are they.

These signs are entitled, Castle William and Mary; Fort Constitution; The Isles of Shoals; Portsmouth Light; and one with a map of Portsmouth Harbor that's so filthy I couldn't even read it. The Castle William and Mary sign suggests that the attack on Castle William and Mary, the previous fortification at this site, was the first battle of the American Revolution, a distinction sure to be claimed by at least a dozen other locations.
