The delightfully creepy entrance to Battery Krayenbuhl, named for Captain Maurice Krayenbuhl, who died in action in the Philippines in 1899. This battery had two rapid-firing 5-inch guns to protect the minefields, and could also fire to the rear, should the swampy, poop-filled ditch and parados (pile of dirt with the fort's latrines ingeniously built inside) that constitute the rearward defenses of Fort Mott somehow prove ineffective.
