The reason Fort Frederica exists where it does is the Frederica River. While it doesn't appear to be anything special today, this waterway system connected the Atlantic Ocean with a great many English settlements to the north: Fort King George, another English starfort protecting the settlement that is now Darien, Georgia, is just about a dozen miles up this waterway. |
