The unifying theme of all of the structures that exist today in Fort George is that they really really want to keep people out of them. As the fort seems to serve primarily as a sort of a municipal playground, one can imagine a deep desire to prevent Castine's children from plunging to their deaths unless absolutely necessary. As one can see, however, the goal of not endangering unattended youngsters may not be attainable here, seeing the shape the fort is in today.
