Castine, which during the late 18th and early 19th centuries was one of the most heavily-fortified places on the planet, with the French, Dutch, British and Americans at odds with one another, is disappointing today if one goes there hoping to find forts, star- or otherwise. It seems like a nice enough town. Although it was extremely windy when I was there, which I guess technically isn't the town's fault.
