Reportedly, ten Americans had died in the Battle of Groton Heights before the British took Fort Griswold. The total number of dead and wounded from the battle and following massacre differ from source to source, but this plaque shows 88 dead, 36 wounded and paroled, 28 prisoners taken away, 13 escaped, and one released. I tend to believe the signage on the spot for the most accurate information.
