A Parrot Rifle! There were 141 guns at Fort Jefferson when the garrison left in 1874, and the vast majority of them were sold for scrap in 1900. The numbers on the signing at the fort regarding the guns that are there today don't seem to add up, however: Six Rodman Guns and four Parrot Rifles are said to have been the only survivors of this artillery massacre, but each of the fort's six bastions have a Rodman mounted in one manner or another, and there are a few more Rodmans and Parrots sprinkled around the terreplein. Well, I'm certainly not complaining about a superfluity of cannon!
