Samuel de Champlain (1567-1635) is considered the Father of New France, which means Acadia, which means, essentially, Québec. He established the settlement that would be Québec City in the spring 1608, so he must have really hustled to be here in New York the following year, in order to be jumped by a band of Iroquois!
