And we may have taken just a smidge too long before setting off on our circumnavigation, because from that center gun embrasure popped the head of a park ranger, who asked if we might not mind terribly heading back to the mainland on the ferry which was just about to set off. We would be the only ones left on the island if not, and it would be awfully silly (and expensive!) to send the ferry back in another few hours just for us.

We were offered a free ticket for the ferry that could be used any time this operating season by way of recompense, which would do us no good in that we would be leaving for starforts north the following day, but which was nonetheless a generous offer. We had seen most of Fort Warren by this point, so we agreed.
