The Battery Commander's Station at Battery Gregg, which mounted two 5" guns on Fort Mott's left side, much as Battery Krayenbuhl did on the right side. Also like Battery Krayenbuhl, Battery Gregg was named for a US Infantry Captain who was killed in action in 1899 in the Philippines; Captain John C. Gregg. One wonders if our troops were sent into the Philippines in order to produce names of recently-killed officers for all of the Endicott-era batteries that were being busily stacked along our coast!
