Forbes to Pitt: November 27, 1758 General John Forbes conducted his entire 1758 expedition while suffering from a debilitating, unknown disease. Unable to mount a horse or ride in a wagon, he could only travel in a litter borne by two horses. Forbes died in March 1759 and is buried in Christ Episcopal Church in Philadelphia.
