As one might imagine, the preparation of food was considered an important part of garrison life. The bake ovens at Fort Jackson and Fort Macon are particularly breathtaking (the latter being a lovely modern reproduction), but just as breathtaking is this, the remains of Fort Pike's bake oven! It's pretty easy to divine its size and placement, based on the shadow it left behind.

No discernable chimney hole up top, surely it was just filled in when the oven disintegrated or was removed or eaten by Indians or whatever happened to it.
